Every company has a beginning.
Ours didn’t start in a boardroom, with investors, or with a perfectly polished business plan.
It started with two brothers, a lot of questions, an opportunity to work hard, and the belief that if we were going to build something, we were going to build it the right way.
In 2005, after college, David and I found ourselves in a season of uncertainty. Like many young adults, we were trying to figure out what came next. We had ambition, ideas, and a willingness to work, but we didn’t yet know what our future would look like.
Working together for a local painting company opened a new door. What began as residential repainting quickly became something bigger. We started asking ourselves a simple question:
“Why couldn’t we build something of our own?”
Being brothers gave us something many businesses spend years trying to create: trust. We knew we had each other’s backs, no matter what. That foundation became the beginning of Dunaway Brothers.
Then came the leap.
In December 2006, we incorporated Dunaway Brothers.
Looking back, some people might say we should have spent another decade learning from someone else before starting our own company. Maybe they were right.
But entrepreneurship doesn’t always wait until everything feels safe.
Sometimes faith asks you to take the first step before you can see the whole staircase.
There wasn’t a backup plan.
There wasn’t another option.
There was only the decision to move forward.
Nearly twenty years later, we’re grateful we did.
